iPhone 12 series launched, now with OLED displays!

Apple launched the much-awaited iPhone 12 series with a digital event recently and needless to say the tech world is abuzz with this launch. The invite to this very online event reads ‘Hi, Speed’ and that was enough to make everyone speculate on how the new iPhone may be faster. And Apple did not disappoint. As the new iPhone 12 comes with A14 Bionic that is the fastest chip in any smartphone, along with the Ceramic Shield that has four times better drop performance. 4 phones have been launched- iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 pro max, and iPhone 12 mini.

However, what’s interesting to note is that Apple has now confirmed that the entire iPhone 12 series will not include EarPods or power adapter. The box is now slimmer, and by removing the power adapter and EarPods, Apple says it is using fewer raw materials. This change is also applicable to iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and 2020 iPhone SE. Apple mentioned that it is not including these things due to environmental reasons.

“Across the iPhone family, we’re removing the power adapter and EarPods that often go unused but including the fast-charging USB-C to Lightning cable that most people need. That shrinks packaging and more boxes per shipment mean fewer shipments overall. We’re also transitioning our manufacturing partners to renewable energy. Altogether, this eliminates over 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually.” Apple said on its website.

iPhone 12 variant

The new phones will be available for consumers in India, 30th Oct onwards. iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB, and iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The iPhone 12 lineup also has a thinner design. It now has flat edges, as compared to the older round edges.

As Apple said, ‘iPhone 12 has it all — in two perfect sizes.’

iPhone 12 with A14 Bionic Chip

The iPhone 12 Pro models come with the A14 Bionic chip, which is the first chip to be used in the smartphone industry ever that is built on a 5-nanometer process. What does that mean? The iPhone 12 phones are faster and more efficient than ever (Hi, Speed) since A14 has the fastest GPU and CPU when compared to the fastest running smartphone chips. This enables insanely powerful photography, console-like gaming, and of course great battery life. The A14 bionic is in fact, capable of performing 11 trillion operations per second!

iPhone 12 comes with SuperRetina XDR OLED display

The iPhone 12 bundles now come with the very exciting Super Retina XDR Display; OLED. Apple is calling it their best iPhone display ever and rightly so. Essentially, with Super Retina, iPhone 12 now has 1,200 nits HDR brightness and 20,00,000:1 contrast ratio. This means that OLED pixels each emit their light, unlike LCDs that normally use a separate backlight that illuminates all the pixels at one go. This can be lighted up to 1200 nits that will provide HDR content, to be turned off that will produce true blacks.

OLED comes with a ton of benefits, thereby making it one of the best feature introductions in the iPhone 12 lineup. OLED display consumes much lesser power as compared to the earlier LED screens, hence saving power. It also gives a much-improved image and video quality, that shows higher brightness, better colors, better contrast, etc.

iPhone 12 new camera features

All cameras, including the selfie camera, now has a Night mode and is a great choice for clicking photos in low-light. The new wide camera brings approx. 27% more light than before. Interestingly, Smart HDR 3 uses machine learning to not just recognize faces, but also recognize scenes, and then accordingly it adjusts sharpness, color, and white balance wherever required.

iPhone 12 comes with 5G

Apple also announced that it has worked with telecoms around the world to bring 5G to the new iPhones. The new phones will provide a superior 5G experience, with world-class hardware and software. As per the Apple release, ‘featuring the most 5G bands on any smartphone, iPhone 12 Pro models offer the broadest 5G coverage worldwide. Model in the US support millimeter wave, the higher frequency version of 5G, allowing iPhone 12 Pro models to reach speeds up to 4Gbps, even in densely populated areas. iPhone 12 Pro models also feature Smart Data mode, which extends battery life by intelligently assessing 5G needs and balancing data usage, speed, and power in real-time.’

“This is a huge leap for iPhone, bringing the best 5G experience in the market and delivering our most advanced technologies to users who want the absolute most from their iPhone,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Each generation of the iPhone has changed what we expect from a smartphone, and now with 5G, iPhone 12 Pro provides a new generation of performance.

Apple also launched an iPhone 12 mini which is being called the star of the show. It is the world’s smallest 5G phone! The phone is smaller than the iPhone SE and has a 5.4-inch screen however, it still has the Super OLED screen and features as the rest of the iPhone 12 line up.

iPhone 12 Outlook

Excited? We are too. For starters, the shape of the new iPhones is taking us back to the nostalgia of the iPhone 4 series. Secondly, the iPhone 12 lineup is a beast when it comes to speed.

The speed, the lightweight, the OLED display, and of course the powerful new camera. What’s not to be excited about? As Apple said, Best iPhone Ever!
